This past month has been filled with alot of ups and downs..praise God because HE NEVER CHANGES! We've discontinued OT/PT for Corey at this time and saw a geneticist who recommended some testing. So this past week we drove 3 hrs one way to St. Louis to have a blood test for Fragile X and VCFS for Corey. We hope to know results in 3-4 weeks. We will journey back to St. Louis in December for a hearing and vision specialists appointment there and begin the process of applying to be added to the waiting list for a developmental pediatrician there as well. Corey is learning to draw Os and Xs which is a start..he is using special scissors to begin to learn how to cut paper. He is memorizing verses so well for his Cubbie program at church and is learning to answer questions in his preschool SS class at church. We have friends from church who are coming in some days during the week to help out with Corey so I can spend some one-on-one time with Cam and Caelyn for school..this has been a huge blessing to us to have the help.
All of the kids are doing well! Chelsea is thriving in her Old Testament Survey online class at Baptist Bible College and will take her SATs this weekend. Caleb is enjoying a switch to BJU DVDs. Christian is doing an excellent job at piano and plays offertories for our church. Caelyn lost yet another tooth and carries them around to show others! Cameron is delighting all of us as he learned John 3:16...an amazing accomplishment for a little guy who has struggled to learn to talk. When I commented the other day how big he was getting he asked "When I get beard?" I tried not to fall down laughing..especially since I realized it was a serious question :)
Butterflies and learning to play the violin
Can I ask why you stopped OT/PT? And what prompted you to see a geneticist?
ReplyDeleteWe realized that Corey could do the PT things but just often lacked the ability to focus to actually do the therapy..in other words there was no real deficit. As far as OT...we found that we learned a lot from watching what our OT was doing and started doing some similar things at home. Until he progresses in some areas it will be more of the same and we wanted to give some breathing room in our schedule to go to other doctors. Trying to get Corey's behavior to calm down enough to do therapy was often exhausting so we took a break! Hope that helps :) We had researched about how to find a FASD diagnosis and contacted the Univ of Washington for their recommendations and they told us geneticist could help so that's where we went to work toward that :)
